Existing vehicles will remain on the road so those who need a ICE vehicle will still be able to have one - just not a new one.
We've seen the same approach with permanent sidelights on cars, incandescent light bulbs, vacuum cleaners and energy rating on white goods. So they will not stop people from buying an ICE vehicle per se, just that there will be no new ones on the market to buy. That will probably mean people holding onto their older vehicles for longer, which is energy saving in its own right because of the energy cost of manufacture.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
@P962c This is a great post and it's wonderful to hear your insight first hand. Personally, I love the idea of an electric vehicle but they're way out of my price range (especially after buying my house). We recently said goodbye to our van and got a 1L petrol 2014 focus - just £20 on tax a year! Absolutely buzzing! This doesn't compare to the no tax for electric vehicles though.
What do you use your car for mainly? Do you do a lot of miles?
@meldrewreborn @retrotecchie Forgive me for asking...but what's an ICE? 🙈

Glad you liked the post.
I use the car as normal, locally and longer trips. Mileage is around is between 5k an 10k annually.
Glad you are enjoying your new car.
There will be road tax on EVs from 2025 using the formula used on petrol a diesel currently. Governments don’t like losing tax revenue. Personally I think EVs should pay the tax to keep things fair. Hate paying tax of any kind though!

Not just electric cars… my 2015 1.5l diesel also has no annual road tax. 100,000 miles and I’m reluctant to get rid of it 😃
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
