I'm just wondering how widespread this latest problem is?
I've recently come off a fixed rate and onto E.ON Next's variable Next Flex tariff. As usual, the smart meter/ in house display wasn't updated automatically and I contacted E.ON Next.
I was told it wasn't a problem, they would send the update information out and all would be well the next day.
The following day I checked the IHD and it was showing a much higher cost than expected. I again contacted EON Next who informed me there was a problem with many smart meters showing 'The Pay on Receipt' tariff instead of the correct Next Flex tariff. I was also told there wasn't a current fix and they were working on it.
It seems incredulous to me that this is the situation and there isn't a straightforward fix. One of the few positive advantages to the customer is absent in this scenario.
Price is a big factor but many of us just concentrate on the consumption in kWh. If you do that price changes are of little consequence. Keep your consumption to the minimum and the costs will do the same.
Treat the IHD as a guide to pricing and cost - nothing more, nothing less.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
You're absolutely correct and of course I do concentrate on reducing my consumption. However, that isn't the point of my post and incidentally, my wife and I find it much easier to reduce consumption by looking at cost rather than actual power consumption in KWh.
Personally I would wait and see after the 1st of July as new tariffs come in. If the IHD doesn't update then try sending an email with heading "Request Tariff Update" include all your account details in the body of the email. There have been issues particularly with SMETS1 systems. I've got one 🙁.
The problem with cost is that prices have changed so much that from one 3 month period to another you would be comparing apples to melons.
I fully agree that you IHD should display the correct information. Its just one of the issues with smart metering where the reality falls well short of the slick TV ads. I'm no fan of smart meters but I think they should work as advertised if you have one..
