Very slowly Fixed Tariffs are returning. Up to now EPG has taken away the decision making. Things are changing ( no crystal ball). We are going to have to make choices.
For some, it may not be a simple decision. There are various factors to take into account.
The link below may help or at least give some food for thought.
Other than my mobile phone/landline/internet package, I can't think of a single thing I've ever 'fixed'. Even with mortgages back in the day, I've only ever stayed with variable. I had the choice to fix my mortgage for five years, back in 2006. At 9.45%! Even now, the worst variable rates are around 7.15% but we have had historically low mortgage rates for years and folks have got too used to them. Had I fixed the mortgage, it would have cost me an extra ยฃ30k over those five years, the equivalent of fifteen months salary!
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I've usually come out on top by never fixing.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
Evening @retrotecchie . I had a funny feeling you might have said that. ๐ด I'm expecting a few more similar responses ๐. My crystal ball seems to be working for once ๐. The only reason for bringing up Fixed Tariffs is there's a Martin Lewis prog just starting and social media has been buzzing a lot recently. Strangely strange but oddly normal your train of thought is the same as mine. ๐
Either great minds think alike, or fools rarely differ. I have much more hindsight to draw on now than I have future to try and predict! ๐ง๐๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ

An additional factor that will need to be considered is the exit fee for these fixes that are being drip-fed onto the market. The recent ones have all had exit fees including the exclusive one for Eon Next customers. It will be a pity if Eon Next go down this route (as I believe they will) for any post-July 1st offerings available to the masses (inc myself) as this was a strong selling point when I originally moved to Eon Next 2 years ago. Now on the variable SVT like 90%+ (I guess).
As a smart meter user I'm also looking at more imaginative (TOU) time of use tariffs that are available from some other suppliers although my present usage patterns probably mean I'm still better on a 'normal' tariff. Although things have started with Eon Next they are way behind where Octopus are with TOU.
Critically I want to stay with payment by Variable Direct Debit (not available from every supplier) and to have clear monthly bills. Customer service is another consideration I would have if I changed supplier. In spite of the horror stories we see (someimes on this community forum), I've had a more than decent experience with Eon Next since I joined them. Billing from Eon Next is crystal clear to me, reconciles with my spreadsheet and I've been fortunate not to have had the sort of head-banging issues we see on this forum.
It takes two to tango they say and customers are not the perfect beings the media portrays. Personal experience guides me in my choices, plus price. I can sort out customers services well enough if things go wrong. Not having a smart meter probably helps.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but Iโll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
