I have a question about my power supply. My upstairs neighbour (who is with a different supplier) is having a smart meter fitted on Monday and has said the power to the building will be off while they do it. Is he allowed to do that? We would have preferred a bit more discussion of dates and times but he is just going ahead and having our power shut off. Is that even legal?
If it's a safety issue for the engineers fitting the meter then it is common practice and indeed perfectly legal. I would expect they will only need the power isolated for about ten minutes. At least you had some notice. I never have prior warning of our regular power cuts.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
This neighbour emails on a Saturday saying the power will be off for a bit on Monday afternoon. We say hold on, how about you get our consent first and reschedule when it's convenient, he more or less says it's going ahead so tough. My wife is furious, but as you say we've been given notice and it sounds like there's nothing we can do about it. 😡
It's not easy to 'confer' and then tell the power company when it's 'convenient' unfortunately. They schedule an appointment, usually at fairly short notice, and if you miss it, it can be a workup to get another one. So not ideal, I'm sure, for all parties. But that's life.
Not a bad shout. We get power cuts a couple of times a week so I invested in a UPS to hold the router, cordless phones and boiler controls up during outages and it has been a worthwhile investment 👍
