They told us at school many moons ago, that 'keep your eyes peeled' originated in the 19th century, and might derive from peeling or opening foods such as bananas and potatoes to see the edible parts, thus meaning keep your eyes open to see what is happening. I have no idea if it is true though.

You are absolutely correct - and look, there are some more flying pigs going by!
In time there may be reductions - but I think they will come slowly as any supplier offering low rates will be swamped with applications. They've grown out of having to deal with - switching must be at record low levels.Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless. -

I once heard the saying "Make like a bowl of fruit...keep your eyes peeled and your ears skinned"Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -

I've not heard that one, but up here in the North East, I've heard people say 'Keep your eyes skinned', as well as 'Keep your eyes peeled'.😀 -

My standing charges are virtually unchanged but my gas unit rate is down 30.0%, while the electricity unit rate is down only 10.5%. Given that domestic gas use will be fairly small through the summer months I suspect some people will be rather disappointed by this announcement, but the authorities will focus on annual consumption at these prices for the dual fuel household..
While it may arithmetically work out to a 17% reduction when calculated on annual consumption for the typical dual fuel household, for some (say all electric customers) it may come out closer to 9% over the summer months - welcome but not as good as trumpeted. And this is the new normal, so the hurt will continue into the winter.Last edited by meldrewreborn; 25-05-23 at 15:05.

"Keep 'em peeled" was the end-of-program catchphrase used by the late Shaw Taylor of the series 'Police 5' for 30 years if I recall.

Quite correct - many (most?) electricity only customers will feel hard done by and there are not likely to be great reduction later in the year either.
