In time there may be reductions - but I think they will come slowly as any supplier offering low rates will be swamped with applications. They've grown out of having to deal with - switching must be at record low levels.

There are a number of possibilities, but nothing totally definitive. Yours is a viable option.

My standing charges are virtually unchanged but my gas unit rate is down 30.0%, while the electricity unit rate is down only 10.5%. Given that domestic gas use will be fairly small through the summer months I suspect some people will be rather disappointed by this announcement, but the authorities will focus on annual consumption at these prices for the dual fuel household..
While it may arithmetically work out to a 17% reduction when calculated on annual consumption for the typical dual fuel household, for some (say all electric customers) it may come out closer to 9% over the summer months - welcome but not as good as trumpeted. And this is the new normal, so the hurt will continue into the winter.

Using the calculator and my consumption figures on the MSE website calculator, that gives me a decrease of only 8% a year. But I am only an electricity customer. The notional average of a drop from £2500 a year to £2072 a year, or 18% only really applies to duel-fuel customers.
Fortunately, my overall energy bill saving is nearer 35% as the price of heating oil has nearly halved in the last six months. Now at around 4.5p/kWh and no standing charges👍
Quite correct - many (most?) electricity only customers will feel hard done by and there are not likely to be great reduction later in the year either.
