@Tommysgirl
make use of your fridge if you get too much fruit!
at the end of the season you can wrap green fruit in a small amount of newspaper, store in a cool place and inspect regularly. You might still have fruit ripening in December !Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. @meldrewreborn
Thanks for the great advice, I didn't know you could do that. I'll definitely give it a try. -
@meldrewreborn
And failing that, green tomato chutney is a good way to use up any unripened toms. If you put a gone over 'nana π in with the toms, that can help ripen them tooDon't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I didn't know that @meldrewreborn thanks for that tip! @retrotecchie I've heard of the overripe "nanar" tip before but I've never tried it does it make much of a difference?"Green is the prime colour of the world and that from which it's loveliness arises"-Pedro Calderon De La Barca π³

Sure does bananas π produces more ethylene gas than any other fruit. Ethylene speeds up ripening. I find best if you put the banana in a storage box π¦ with the tomatoes π .Last edited by WizzyWigg; 09-06-23 at 20:06. Reason: Grammar

That's a good shout, it makes sense really as that's why you use a banana tree instead of putting them in the fruit bowl π

My late ex father in law used to swear by putting his 'nana skins in his hanging baskets of tumbling toms. Personally, I think the best place for the skins is in the compost. They contribute to the K (potassium) levels quite nicely. -
@Mailman has found wonderful recipes with the slow cooker ! Even are also Italian and I was well shocked as they looked very delicious !

I have a family allotment back in Italy. My grandpa, used to grow anything and everything. Seasonal vegetables and fruits and in October, he would harvest the olives to then turn it into oil. I don't think I will ever be able to taste such flavourful olive oil again. In the summer, I remember going to visit my grandparents for the weekend and the amount of fruits and vegetables was surreal. He was a great fan of watermelons. In Italy when the temperature hit 40 degrees a cold watermelon is all we want to have throughout the day. his trick to make them sweet? Adding sugar to the soil. π
I am not sure if that was the case, but his watermelons were always very sweet and juicy π
