share certificates have the name of the company registrar, together with their contract details on them. That’s the route for you.

I don't know about Eon shares specifically but for other share holdings such as SSE or Shell then shareholders receive regular dividend statements and payments into their personal bank accounts. If these events are not occurring then it is possible that the shares have been sold and even if you have share certificates then they could be defunct. The statements usually state the value of the shareholding and provide instructions on how to sell back to the company.

I've only just come across your thread, did you manage to find out if these were still active or not? I'm not too sure who would be the contact within E.ON Next for this but I will try to find out 😊
