E.On Next don't give any appearance of being concerned about this type of event as the meter can still be read and readings submitted manually through the website. While that continues to be the case my feeling is that they'll do nothing much to rectify the situation.
But what of the promises made about smart meters and not having to send manual readings anymore? Well the advertising is ever so slightly misleading, or depending on your point of view, telling whoppers.Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless. -

Which does beg the question of why they even bother with smart meters. We're all capable of submitting manual readings from dumb meters, and those that don't simply get an estimated bill.
Dispense with smart meters, no need for a 'smart meter' team. No ongoing £400-£600 million a year to fund the DCC (paid for out of our standing charges, ad infinitum), no need to contract Telefonica or Arqiva for the communications infrastructure (£2.7 billion for the contract).
Go back to mechanical gas meters. No batteries to fail. It can only save the industry money in the long term and bring consumer costs down. I'd like to see some statistics. Per 100,000 customers with traditional credit meters and similarly smart meter customers, what is the rate of reporting problems with the meters to customer service. For my own part I can not think of one occasion in my time as a bill payer (50 years now) that I've had to report a traditional metering problem.
