Has anyone noticed it's a bit nippy out so possibly energy demand is up?
On the evening of Tuesday 17/01/2023 there were Demand Flexibility Service events run by British Gas, EDF Energy and Ovo Energy for periods of 2, 3 and 1 hours respectively. Each with differing criteria.
Does anyone know when the next Eon effort will be?
The next Eon Energy Shift CON event is tomorrow (Thu 19/1) but the twist this time is that it is running in the morning from 9am to 10am and I can earn a miserly £0.35p. Also the energy target is a reduction from a relatively low typical 590W down to 470W. Although this target is achievable it is totally pointless and a total waste of time and so I won't be bothering this time.
They are offering me a staggering 10p.
I was going to ignore this one, but I've decided to accept, but I won't do anything different and see what happens.
As Actual says, its not worth the bother. From a financial point of view, anyway. But maybe it will give Eon Next some useful figures to work with.
I don't think @Actual saving 120Wh or not will make a hill of beans difference to National Grid as to whether they need to bring another 5MW of CCGT onstream or not for the period.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
I'm convinced that when the national grid really needs consumers to reduce their energy usage to avoid load shedding that many will feel incentivised to use MORE energy.
I was out of the house at 09:00 today so I couldn't have used much energy if I tried.
Thursday 19/01/2023 from 9:00AM to 10:00AM.
You could earn around £0.35
20% reduction
Your typical use 0.59kwh
Reduce by 0.12kwh
Target usage 0.47kWh
Actual per hour usage from Bright
0900 0.397kWh
By my calculations I think that I should have earnt my £0.35 but what does Eon Next think?
I think you all need to consider shifting your energy as the energy shifting calculation takes into account energy users shifting their usage to a set three hours starting 4 hours before the event.
So in this case as the saving event started at 9am you should try and shift as much energy use into the 5am-8am period.
That combined with your normally usage during the shifting event completes the calculation.
As an example we shifted this usage for the even we were invited to by loop on 19/1 9am-10am. Washing machine load, tumble dryer load, dishwasher, heated the hot water and heated the garage gym for workouts. So in theat 5am-8am period we shifted 14kwh of energy use from the rest of the day there.
I have started a spreadsheet for the calculation but as this is our first saving session I don't know exactly what we will receive and it may need a few tweaks but will update here

You may be right about the calculation but my impression was that it based on usage over previous days but I don't know if time of day is taken into account.
So far I have failed 2 and won 2 and earnt £19.21 which was well in excess of expectation.
