Hi
Last week I had new smart meters for gas and electricity fitted.
I have been on economy 7 tariff for years but have worked out that I only use about 16% night electricity. I am on eco7 next flex tariff.
I think I’d be better off on a constant rate option?
what’s the quickest way to switch a I don’t see the option to do this online?
Also will the new economy7 smart meter still work on a standard tariff?
Thank you
Yes, a smart meter can be remotely configured as a single rate meter. You cannot change your tariff online but an email to hi@eonnext.com with your details in the body and "Request switch from E7 to standard tariff" should hopefully do the job.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
That's nonsense. The meter can be remotely programmed as a single rate meter. That is an integral requirement for all meters as part of the SMETS2 specification. In a worst case scenario, you may still have to use it as a dual-rate meter, i.e. Provide both sets of readings (peak and off peak) or have them read them smartly, but they can still change the tariff for you so both registers are charged at the same standard rate.
I'll tag @PeterT_EONNext and @DebF_EONNext for you as one or t'other of them should be able to help with this for you.
@retrotecchie I told them what you said in WhatsApp messaging and lo and behold, they found they could do that so many thanks to you!
my account shows the correct 2 flat rate tariffs now in the app but the ihd still shows the old rate. Do you know how long the smart meter takes to update? No worries if not.

My advice is turn the IHD off, leave it for a couple of hours, or overnight, then turn it on again and hopefully it will resynchronise itself to the meters and pick up the correct tariff.
Sometimes the right advice in the right ear can work wonders. It's the old 80/20 rule, with Customer Services. They know most of what they need to most of the time, but it's the left-field stuff they aren't quite so up to speed on. But looks like you're almost there now, pending the IHD update 🤞
Great advice there @retrotecchie, I'm pleased you managed to get sorted with a flat rate tariff @Frederick. As Retrotecchie has said above it can take up to 24 hours for your IHD to update, if it doesn't update by tomorrow evening try unplugging the device, turning it off (or letting it power down) then turn it on as close to the actual smart meter as possible to reset it. If that still doesn't update your info get in touch with our energy specialists they will be able to get a tariff update sent to the IHD for you 😊
