I have had my solar panels for eleven years, now I need to remove them to have a new roof fitted. I can't find anyone to do the job. A few years ago I. could have done it myself but now that I'm seventy years old I don't want to be climbing on my roof, even though it is very accessible, being a bungalow. I'd appreciate any advice.
If you have a grid tied system which has MCS Certification, you will need to find a MCS registered company that could quote you for this. Not something that a regular electrician or a builder could actually do because of the MCS regulations. That's what I understand at any rate. Could be wrong, but the MCS certification is as much about workmanship as it is about the actual equipment used.
If it's an off-grid or standalone system, the world is your oyster.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
The problem is that I can’t find anyone to do the work, that’s why I’m posting here, to see if anyone has a suggestion. As the roof is leaking I need to find someone very soon.
Not a million miles from me. Let me make a couple of phone calls on Monday morning and I'll see if either of the local guys over my way can help. Can't remember the name of either firm but they have signs up outside a couple of properties they've installed on local to me. I'll have a foray tomorrow and make some enquiries.

I’ve found a couple of roofing firms who will remove and refit my solar panels when fitting a new roof. It has crossed my mind to leave the panels off because they cause so much trouble whenever I need something done on the roof, which is more often than normal it seems. I don’t know if I should inform anyone if I do leave them off. Once you’ve had solar panels for about 10 years there is no help or support when things go wrong.

Reason: Spelling error.
Ok, I tried my two local lads today but they only cover West Wales and are up to their necks in work right now so can't help, I'm afraid.
If they're more bother than they're worth, your building firm should be able to remove the panels and just not put 'em back again. If the panels are disconnected, the cables feeding the controller/inverter can just be left disconnected in your roof space. Won't do any harm and that will effectively render the system decommissioned.
@retrotecchie. I’ve found a local electrician who is MSC qualified and he will remove and replace the panels before and after the roofer comes. His estimate is £600 for two days work and he’ll replace any components as necessary at additional cost. Work starts this week.
Thanks for your help.
