I last gave a reading on 20/11/22 for Gas. Since then my meter is now blank. Nothing wakes it. Eon are not even sending estimates for Gas? Why is this. If there is no reading how on earth can I be charged anything as theres no proof of usage.
Your meter has indeed died, more than likely because the battery has gone flat. Your meter requires changing and you will need to drop an email to hi@eonnext.com with all your account details in the body and 'Dead gas meter' in the subject. In the meantime the best they can do is provide estimates of your gas consumption based on previous readings. The sooner the meter is changed, the better.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
There are a very few meters that have an 'engineer serviceable battery'. The battery is behind a cover sealed by a meter seal. These can just be replaced and resealed by a meter engineer. The majority however have built in batteries that cannot be field replaced so need a meter exchange. Again, some meters will continue to record usage even if the user display has failed and can be interrogated by an engineer to retrieve a reading.
some smart meters still have internal bellows which I presume mechanically still measure consumption even when the battery dies. Others measure by electronic sensors. Whether these have a two tier battery, one for communication and another for measurement is not known to me.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
The majority of electronic gas meters have a main battery and a supercapacitor. The supercapacitor is often enough to keep the metering electronics running in the background for some time after the 'user interface' electronics die. A dead meter can often be interrogated on the bench to extract an actual reading from it, and I believe some have a method of interrogating the meter in situ by removing the battery and cover and attaching a reading device to a set of test contacts.
