Why can i not have a dual fuel meter installed only electricity??

    Have been sent a letter inviting me to exchange an old smart meter to an new one. When i phone up to make an installation appointment, they can offer me one, only for electricity not dual fuel but cant explain why? I have Dual fuel with Eon!!!!
    Any Eon staff explain? I'm not wasting a day off for only one fuel not two? thanks :-)

    Just out of interest are both smart meters functioning properly or if just one which one?

    there has been a lot of speculation about SMETS1 non functioning meters and how they would be replaced. There has also been proposals to refurbish non functioning meters and then reusing them in the exchange programme

    Were you promised a new meter or an exchange or refurbished meter?
    Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

    I am also thinking that if the electric meter is an older SMETS1 model that doesn't communicate then swapping that for a newer one with SMETS2 communications may allow pairing with a SMETS1 gas meter. The gas meters themselves don't usually 'phone home' directly but via the electric meter and then on to the coms hub.

    Cam you post photos of both your existing meters? If your gas meter is 'smart capable' then in theory you do only need the comms hub and electric meter changing.

    There is also no such animal as a 'duel fuel meter'. Gas and electric are always two separate meters.

    Of course, there are other possibilities. Were you adopted to E.On Next from nPower by any chance? If so, you may have separate accounts for gas and electric. For some reason, E.On can't seem to integrate these into one single account which for some other reason may also be a barrier to having both meters smart.

    @meldrewreborn we only had an electric meter when we moved into a new build that never worked after eon went to eonnext. I never questioned why there wasn't a smart gas meter. I have presumed that technology has moved on and they should be installing a dual fuel meter but that doesn't appear to be the case but i dont know why.

    @retrotecchie cant post anything at the moment but thanks for refreshing me that dual fuel meters dont exist!! we have only had an electric one from the beginning. have always been with eon for many years. I have never understood why they didn't install both gas and electric meters in our new build 4 years ago or why they cant do both now.

    You can apply to have a smart gas meter, although to my mind they are of little utility if like me you've a boiler, oven hob and gas fire using that fuel. you know if you put something on its going to cost, and you only put it on when its necessary.

    An electric smart meter has greater utility if it works properly - but you never get any guarantees of that.

    Incidentally these are the terms and conditions for claiming a free gift if you have a smart meter fitted. Never in human history have so many words of complete irrelevance been written in relation to something so trivial. But no guarantees that a smart meter will do what they promote.

    Plant a Tree Reward
