I've called around lunch time today as my gas meter is not working(showing battery door open) and was told that engineer should come within 4 hours it is like 5 hours now and no-one has showed yet. I've tried calling 08085015088 number but I get cut off straight away... tried an email and FB but no luck so far what should I do?
Meters are dying left right and centre at the moment, so the engineers are probably behind schedule.
Not a lot you can do other than sit and wait, but if the engineer is late or a no-show, you can claim £30 compensation, then another £30 if they don't cough within 11 working days. Not much help if you are without gas, but you should be on the list for a visit at some point.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
a very good reason not to have a smart gas meter, particularly if it’s prepayment. @theunknowntech advised that there was a safety reason for them being battery powered, didn’t buy it then, and I still don’t. But having an external battery, capable of user change, would seem to be a useful improvement.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
No reason why it could not have a small lithium internal battery, called a bridge battery, and a user serviceable 'external battery' of a standard size and type. Alternatively an external 5v power supply. The meter itself is by design intrinsically safe so an external power pack would confer no additional safety risk.
Alternatively, have a vaned microgenerator working on flow, the same as water meters do.
Or forget the whole electronic meter nonsense and go back to the tried and tested Schlumberger designs where the mechanical flow of gas actually turns the wheels to record volume of gas used. The meter in my last house with gas in it dated from 1979 and is still working fine today according to my ex.
Fitting a very low powered Near Field Communication transponder would allow an electricity meter comms hub to interrogate the meter periodically.
it is a prepayment meter as they can't switch me to Direct debit apparently... they are a real joke apparently the request was not sent until 17:30... so they told me to wait until 20:30 - 21:00... then someone called and said oh we can't do anything until the morning...
