Winter Prep (or Zombie Apocalypse) Survival Kit

As the weather starts to turn some parts of the UK will be hit hard. I know in some parts of rural Scotland where I'm from we often get battered with the weather. Fallen trees, fallen and damaged power lines and flash floods can all lead to difficulties with your power supply, from power cuts to being isolated in your own home in harsh conditions.

Most of us will have a survival kit in our car the usual high vis, torches, snacks, blankets and first aid kits but how many of us actually have a winter prep kit in our homes?

As I mentioned I live in rural Scotland so we often lose power. For example just a few years back we were hammered with the snow, we lost power and we were trapped in our village with no way in or out for 3 days so we couldn't even go to a relatives house. We struggled as it was the first time we had ever been in that situation and naively we had done no preparation, luckily we live in a fantastic community where everyone pulls together and we all look out for each other but could you imagine being on your own!

We have learned from this and we now have what we call our doomsday kit 🤣 We have everything you could think of to keep us going for a week plus a few extras in case a neighbour gets caught out too.

Here are just some of the things we include:

    • Torch
    • Batteries
    • Blankets
    • Hand / Feet warmers
    • Tinned Food
    • Pet Food
    • Camping Stove
    • Powerbank for charging
    • Copies of all of our important documents such as birth certificates and passports etc so we have details in case of a flood/fire

Also here are some useful numbers in case you ever find yourself in a situation:

    • Gas Leaks: 0800 111 999
    • Power Cut: 105
    • Emergency Services: 999
    • Non Emergency Police: 101
    • NHS Out of Hours (This is called NHS 111 in England & Wales or NHS 24 in Scotland): 111
    • You should also keep an eye out for information from your local council too for updates

What I would love to know is what do you think is an essential for the winter?

Do you have your own apocalypse kit or what do you do to prep for an emergency?

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

Yes I agree it's a staple, perfect to make a wee warming hot toddy! My Nana used to say a hot toddy a day keeps the chill away 😂 great for warming the cockles!
