Does anyone know how to up the emergency credit limit? It only gives me £2 which barely covers a couple of hours. Also I’m having to put on up to £100 a week and it’s a real struggle as I’m a single mum on benefits and currently pregnant with little to no family or friends around to help. Does anyone know when the warm home discount kicks in?
If you are eligible for WHD you will get a letter through from DWP by mid January. If you qualify, you will get the discount by end of March.
Emergency credit for electric or gas?
That figure of £2 is the point on a gas meter where your 'emergency credit' of £5 or £10 can be activated. It's not the emergency credit itself.
You should not resort to using emergency credit unless it is an emergency, because you'll need to clear it at a premium rate before you use the rest of your top up.
Do you have any outstanding debt on the meter because £100 a week sounds rather high unless you are already trying to clear a previous debt.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
Press the A button on your meter until it beeps. Then press A again repeatedly until you get to Screen 27. Just double check it isn't showing any debt.
Then, scroll through the displays again until you see Index or Meter Index. Make a note of the reading.
Then 24 hours later, take a second reading and confirm how much gas you actually use over a 24 hour period. From that, we can get a better idea of what's going on.
Ok, the £2 is not how much emergency credit you have, but the point at which you are able to activate emergency credit. Try to avoid this if at all possible as it costs a lot more.
Your meter comes with £10.00 of Emergency Credit. When the screen displays ‘Emergency Credit Available’, insert the card into the meter and follow the onscreen instructions. The screen will now display ‘Emergency Credit in Use’ and the amount of credit remaining. Once all the Emergency Credit has been used, the meter will switch off. Any Emergency Credit you’ve used must be repaid in full via top-up before this facility becomes available again.
Hi there I have been having the same problem. I don’t have any debt on my meter, but in less than 2wk I have put £170 on my meter, this is just ridiculous Iam in a 2bed house n have my heatin on once a day if Iam lucky, I have a Gas Cooker but don’t even use it right now cus Iam afraid if I do then it’s gonna be toppin in more gas. I also only get £2 emergency credit, yes £2. But even when I topup let’s say £40 my meter still says emergency credit been used? This has become a nightmare for me I have health problem that get worse with the cold but can’t afford to just be puttin money on my meter for it to just b eaten away when Iam not using it. Sorry for the rant it’s just I have nowhere to turn an it’s gettin on top of me now which is not a good thing to happen, my mental health can’t take much more of this. Something needs to be done.
