Set up Codes not working
-
Hi I’ve got two new Npower gas cards and have taken them to a pay zone store to have codes that I was given over the phone at 4pm put on to them. The store tells me the codes are showing as invalid what do I do as the main eon number is shut and the eon out of hours number isn’t working.

It doesn't switch off when you go into the emergency credit from regular. If the property has been unoccupied that will be long gone as the standing charges still come off daily.
@Mcm
you can try an emergency emergency trick which may or may not work, but when you do top up, it's going to cost a bit.
How to use emergency credit on your Pay As You Go gas meter
- Insert your gas card into your meter.
- You'll then have the option to use the emergency credit. Accept it by pressing the red button ‘A’. This will activate the emergency credit.
- You'll need to top up to return to normal use. Press the red button ‘A’ once to see how much you owe. This is for the emergency credit you've used, any debt repayments and standing charges. If you don't buy enough credit when you top-up, your meter will still leave you with at least 30% of your top-up to use for your gas.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -

Unless the emergency number is working, I doubt you will be able to top up tonight, I'm afraid.
I take it you have the correct number? 0808 501 5088

I suspect Npower cards are no longer valid - the takeover was maybe a couple of years ago. @retrotecchie - didn't you say the gas doesn't get switched off for safety reason in another thread. And who is on duty tonight?Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless. -
@retrotecchie
Out of curiosity, did Eon Next up the limit of emergency credit available with the recent price increase in play? -
@Plantagenet
Increasing from a fiver to a tenner from next Friday, I think? Implemented at next topup. -
@retrotecchie
Thanks, I know British Gas made theirs a tenner not long back. -
@retrotecchie, @Plantagenet thank you both for your input.
I am getting to really dislike prepayment meters and the support, or lack of it, that E.On Next provides (the other suppliers may be much the same). Why isn't there a separate number for prepayment emergencies answerable (quickly) around the clock?
Many of those on prepayment are vulnerable in one way or another and to be denied gas or electricity can be really difficult. And we're seeing on the forum a number of these instances where the occupants of a property change and the incoming people face huge hurdles in getting supplies up and running - inevitably into the afternoon and evening, when most services are shutting down.Last edited by meldrewreborn; 08-12-22 at 20:25.

It can be frustrating, I used to do lots of uncapping gas supplies and safety checks on tenated properties ,where there was not enough emergency credit left to reinstate the gas supply. The new occupiers either didn't have the card or couldn't top it up so they were left without gas..Anyway you have all given good advise today!Last edited by Plantagenet; 08-12-22 at 20:20.
