Since we're all told to disregard the decimal places the smallest consumption level is 1, and in cu ft that approximates to 32 kWh which at current prices is about £10. So the bill isn't correct at all.
Ok, got you, but the readings used for billing are the four most significant digits, ignoring the decimals. Those readings are right on the bill, and thus the bill makes total sense, if just being billed for an actual 79 cubic feet.
But.....you are completely correct that the four most significant digits are 100s of cubic feet. The bill calculation is indeed correct. But they didn't multiply by 100s.
So the bill is a factor of 100 too low. They say 79 cubic feet when it's really 7900 cubic feet, innit?
Now, having had conversations on backbilling before....if the OP can manage to hang in there for 12 months or more before they realise their mistake...

Putting that figure in....Just on the back of an envelope.
gas used = 2400 odd kWh, at ten and a bit pence a pop....£260 odd, plus standing charge. SHOULD be a nearly £300 bill. Ouch!
