You may be eligible if the DWP say you have qualifying benefits and are under the income threshold AND The VOA determine you have a high heat cost property. Unless you get the Guaranteed Credit Element of Pension Credit, both the DWP and VOA have to tick their respective boxes for you to qualify.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
@retrotecchie not sure what qualifies as a high heat cost property but I live in a 3 bedroom property on my own, this was much easier when you applied for it imo
Is it a recent build, fairly well insulated and on the mains gas grid? In a sheltered area? In which case possibly will not qualify. On the other hand, if it's a 19th century solid stone cottage, off the gas grid and 1000ft above sea level on an exposed coast, it most likely will.
Forget previous years. The only thing the same this year is the name.
Customers no longer need to apply - that's good because lots of people didn't use to bother.
More customers will get the discount, up from 2.1 million to 2.8 million - most will see that as good.
The categories are different and disability qualifications have been removed - the Government wanted to focus more on perceived need than labels.
People don't know whether their home qualifies - that's not so good, but this scheme will now run for 4 years (perhaps more) so this is the transition year. Subsequent years should be more straightforward.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
How do you know you are? You need to check to be sure.
Previous eligibility now counts for nothing since the government decided to 'transform' this payment, as I have just discovered for myself.
Back when this payment was based purely on receiving certain benefits, I qualified. Now, due to my home being a single point above the new criteria thanks to an outdated energy certificate, I have been informed I am no longer 'eligible'. I have been told I should ask my landlord for a new certificate if I want to challenge it, which with my landlord's usual response level will probably take about a decade to obtain.
Disability benefits do not qualify this year. The system is completely different from what was done in the past.
if you are in receipt of other qualifying benefits AND have a High heat cost home, you may be eligible.
If so, you would have received a letter from DWP back in November. Unless you live in Scotland, there was no need to apply this year.
@retrotecchie - you've posted the correct information to @Nakatomi several times now, the problem is the total lack of communication from E.On Next over whether customers have qualified for the WHD or not., Which is similar to the issue over the AFD which you posted about yesterday.
If customers are not informed on what is going on they will be concerned and enough will call up to try and find out the score.
Emails cost next to nothing to arrange and send, and if E.On Next had sent a message to those who got it last year telling them whether they're going to get it this year or not that would cover most of the queries. Those who didn't get it last year are probably not fretting about the issue because last year you had to apply and they didn't. This year those new people who qualify (quite a lot!) will be surprised when £150 drops into their account.
