I know no more than I posted. The only time I came into contact with E7 was in a flat I did some work on. That had a time switch for the water heating which was adjustable to match the meter timings, which as far as I recall were not actually that accurate and I never found out how they could be amended. The steps I would take would be to actually observe when the cheap period commenced by looking at the meter. While storage radiators were run through a separate consumer unit and could only ever use the cheap rate, the water heating had a single element which used either source, so had to be timer controlled to maximise the use of the cheap rate, with c also the boost feature mentioned above.

my Mum and Dad were bombed out by a V2 rocket in February 1945. Their bomb claim for the contents came to around £350, and there wasn’t a single electrical item on it.
their claim was accepted, and an official sticker warned that “bomb damage claims will only be paid out after the conclusion of the war”! Quite an incentive to win eh?
