Hi all changed out storage heaters to electric heaters wired into existing storage heater circuit after advice from EON saying no wiring mods would be needed they’ll just change tariff and update settings on smets1 meter remotely, changed this morning can see online and meter tariff has changed but my Heating circuit is not live, when called back they are now saying they’re not sure that can be done?? Keep getting conflicting info every time I speak to someone new does anybody know if it can be done?? Hope this makes sense
Your heating circuit will still be controlled from the switched contacts on the meter. If they remotely reprogrammed the meter to straight Economy 7, your panel heaters 'may' work only during E7 off peak times, or they won't work at all.
The original advice was possibly incorrect.
Can you post a photo of your electric meter and the nearby consumer units and wiring?

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
@retrotecchie thanks for reply I’ll add consumer pic on later but basically proteus contactor gos to separate part of board which has a main switch and individual RCDs for each storage heater was on E7 eon now swapped to same tariff day/night this morning
Ok, got it. Your meter is a four terminal meter with an auxilliary switch. The neutral is switched to the Proteus contactor which operated the heating circuits when the off peak time is active.
In which case, your heater panels will most likely come on around midnight and go off again at 7am or thereabouts, same time slot as the storage heaters would have been. In which case, you have no heating from 7am till midnight.
That’s right spoke to Eon who said it might need one of there sparks to come out but after speaking to there tech guy said they could put it on same tariff day/night update something on meter remotely which would make that live all the time dos that seem right??
If they can reprogram the meter so the aux contact is on all the time, on single rate, then you are good to go. You'll just need to turn the heaters on and off manually as required.
But until they do that, they might only work on E7 off peak times.
E7 storage radiators used to be very hard to control and properties were too hot in the daytime. New ones are thermostatic and time controlled so heat release matches need better.
given cost saving on off peak electricity E7 and modern equipment is still viable.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
We had a similar issue when they "accidentally" moved us to E7 from E10. Nothing they did remotely persuaded the meter to change the times it sent to that switch. Several meter engineers tried to change it at the meter. They eventually have up, took the switch out and installed a new meter. It took over 6 months.
