SMETS1 meter not migrated, when will I get a SMETS2 meter?
-
I have a pair of SMETS1 meters installed by British Gas some years ago. These have not been migrated to DCC. When will these meters be replaced with SMETS2 meters, as I understand there is a deadline on 31 December 2022 to do this?

The deadline is for DCC to make all reasonable attempts to complete migration of SMETS1 meters onto their networks by 31/12/22 but I suspect this timescale has probably slipped. Once every attempt has been made, any meters that are still 'orphaned' should then be flagged up for replacement.
As to when that may happen, I've not read any timescales. -

FYI. It says in Ref 1 above: “there is a licence requirement on Energy Suppliers to replace any unenrolled SMETS1 meters with SMETS2+ meters by no later than 31 December 2022.”
Also, in Ref 2 it states: “Suppliers are also required by their licence to take all reasonable steps to ensure all unenrolled SMETS1 meters are replaced with a SMETS2 meter by the end of the year, 31 December 2022.”
So it seems the 31 December 2022 deadline is related to replacement and not migration? Unless the two deadlines are coincident?Last edited by Consumer22; 21-11-22 at 19:27.

the DCC migration finishes at the end of 2022. The licence conditions will therefore be broken. OFGEM will then decide what to do, but in my opinion they are even less use than the proverbial chocolate teapot, so what will happen when is up for grabs.Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless. -

Across the industry several licence conditions have been broken this year. OFGEM are toothless when it comes to enforcing any of them. Said deadlines were missed in 2021 so were extended by a year. Lather, rinse, repeat for 2023.Last edited by retrotecchie; 21-11-22 at 21:06.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -

I seem to recall that ex BG meters were the last of the meter to go onto the DCC network. The second link you provided demonstrates that OFGEM expects and the suppliers don’t deliver on anything. -
I am in the same position regarding BG installed SMETS1 meters. Having looked at the OFGEN letter, surely the obligation now lies with Eon to press ahead with a SMETS2 install. Any thoughts on this?
Doesn't help when EON customer service told me that migration could take up to 2025 and EON have nothing to do with the process.
I would think that now is the time for EON as current provider to step in and resolve this (now it seems that the deadline will be missed)
