I am really scared about not being able to put on my heating. I sit in my house with fingers and toes numb from the cold. I cannot afford to put on the heating. I am so scared, as it is not even the depths of winter yet. I think I might die from the cold. I wear three layers, two if them fleece. I just cannot keep warm. I just found out they are not paying the Warm home discount to disabled people anymore. What can I do?

Heated throws/electric blankets don't cost anything like the costs of running central heating at full blast. That being said the central heating did come on warming the house from 14C to 17C this morning costing a little over £1 (11.45kWh of gas used). This is our baseline and the thermostat will be left at 17C until later this afternoon where it is set to 17.5C. If either of us are sedentary watching TV then the heated throw now comes ito its own costing 3.7p/hour! Both of us are layered up these days like yourself. Layering up on its own is not enough but it does help.
@Mailman thank you mailman. I appreciate the advice. May I ask what brand you think is the best. And would you recommend a blanket or throw for when I am sitting at my desk?
@Plantagenet thank you Plantagenet. I appreciate the advice. Would you recommend a particular brand. Are there any pros and/cons of the blanket or throw?
I don’t use one myself ,the dog keeps me toasty! however you want to avoid any that don’t have temperature control or have a slow heating time and no auto shut off feature. You might get a deal on Black Friday if you checkout sites such as Lakeland.

I cannot give you an opinion as to what brand is the best but I can tell you what I use. Our 'electric bed blanket' is a silentnight, had it for donkeys. We use it for the purpose it was designed for - i.e put under the bed sheets and will probably stay there until next Spring. It is slightly more rigid than the 'heated throw' so is a little unsuitable for one person sitting at a desk as these blankets are not really designed to be wrapped loosely around the body. The heated throw we have (a large 'Dreamcatcher' 160cm X120cm is less rigid and will easily cover 2 people on a couch) was purchased last Xmas for £45 and is now selling on Amazon for £60! There are lots of other brands out there and some are for a bit less and some for more. Do your research before you purchase would be my advice. There are some smaller sizes out there as well some costing much less but I have no idea on their effectiveness. Mine has a temperature control (scale 1-9 although 5 setting is really quite toasty) and a number of hours setting as well plus is washable. Make sure that if you do buy a heated throw that you resist the temptation to fold it over itself like layering bandages on a mummy.
