My Energy Shift event was for Tuesday 15/11/2022 from 5:00PM to 6:00PM and my target was to be under 1 kWh to earn £3.72 by participating.

My electricity consumption at this period was 0.652 kWh

The hours before and after were
16:00 to 17:00
3.846 kWh
17:00 to 18:00
0.652 kWh (Gas 2.5465 kWh)
18:00 to 17:00
2.313 kWh

I have just received an email
Although you didn’t meet your energy reduction target this time, which means you missed out on money off your bill

My email reads that I did a great thing and managed a reduction of 37% (needed 40%), unfortunately you missed the target this time???!!!!!

So let me get this right, on sign up I had to reduce my usage from 0.39kwh by 0.19kwh to 0.21kwh, at 4.40pm I turned everything off in the house except for the living room (LED) light, I even turned the fridge/freezer off and boiler off, on the smart meter my real time usage for was almost zero until 6.20pm when I turned all the stuff back on.

This was as much a test for myself, make sure I had (almost) nothing on for 1hr 40mins so it covered the full 1hr of 5pm - 6pm and yet I failed, says it all really and I won't be participating in any future Energy Shift cons.

@Actual totally agree. we'd normally cook our tea during that 5pm til 6pm slot, and on Tuesdays, almost always in the oven.
so we deliberately shifted it forward to finish the oven time before 5pm. and literally just having one energy saving bulb on, to eat our meal.

our Elec usage went up just 3p in the hour. I was monitoring it, pre 5pm, and it probably went up 20p in only 30 mins.

i even took photo's off the smart meter so at 5pm and 6pm so don't see how they can get out of this.
i've only seen 2 comments so far on twitter, from random people ( not ppl i follow ) and both failed. one of them said, their smart meter literally
only went up by 1p in the hour. they were burning candles and everything. they felt it was fishy. the other person said they wouldn't not be doing it again.
as i type , just seen another twitter comment. another fail. and flabbergasted like the rest of us.
i expected an email straight after explaining the results or at least some timescale. come on Eon next, sort this one out.

The Energy Shift only apples to electricity,

Energy Shift will run events asking customers to reduce their electricity use during a set time.

@trotfor Looks like you also covered all bases, I only stood to make 86p out of this fiasco, but gave it a go just to see and obviously just as I thought I would, I failed!

That must be truly disappointing for you and equally frustrating. I'm not sure of the details if I'm really honest and so I have sent your accounts (linked to your Community email addresses) to the focus team who have been working on the Energy Shift and together I am confident we will get an explanation.

You sound like you have all made some fantastic changes though. Did you find it difficult to change your routine?

Just to set your expectations, I'm pretty sure the Energy Shift team are Mon-Fri so I would expect an answer from them Monday sometime. I'm in then too so can always give them a nudge. 😊

Apparently I missed the target which was a surprise as we had a power cut for the entire hour , think the pixie under the stairs was on the invisible Xbox whilst blow drying her hair and making a cuppa for the entire street

So disappointed with this. All we had on was one light bulb and according to our smart meter we well and truly beat the target from 0.8 to 0.5.
But the email today says nope you only saved 39%.
How did they work that out, smart meter shows as about 0.2.
Be interested to see what experiences other people had.
