Anyone paying by monthly variable Direct Debit and receiving paper bills alongside the online account, does the amount requested on the set date showing on the bill actually never correspond to that actually taken and paid to EONNEXT?

Not sure if I really understand what you are asking but here goes.
As a Variable Direct Debit payer the 'bills' I get are online statements generated in pdf format so no paper statements as per my wishes. Got to say that the amount taken on the VDD is such that it zeroises the account balance once taken and applied to my account. Not had any amounts taken that did not match what was itemised.
If you look at my current online transactions and balance:
The itemised amounts that I see in my account match up with what I see on my recent statement in early November.
The VDD to be taken in a few days time matches both the balance (£16.04) that I see on my online account and the DD amount (£16.04) advised in the statement above. On the bill it clearly states 'You opt to pay your balance in full each month'
In my eyes I am not really 'paying the bill' so much as clearing the account to leave the balance at £0. My bills are generally raised on 1st of every month so my next bill covering 1st -30th November will be generated after the next set of meter readings (be they smart or manual) taken on 1st December.😀Last edited by Mailman; 17-11-22 at 15:23.

It does vary. Depends on whether the due date falls on a weekend or Bank Holiday, or if they just haven't fully updated the online statements in time for a printed bill to be issued or no. My DD was taken on 14th of the month from my bank, for three days my E.O Next was showing 'payment to be applied', and then it all rattled through this morning.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -

I don't know if the fact you receive paper bills as well as online bills is a factor in this or not. Are both bills generated on the same date and are they the same?
I think @retrotecchie and @Mailman have Variable DDs so perhaps they can help.I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit. -
The statements on line do match the printed bills, when sent, but the amount stated as requested always ends up being taken as a different value on the correct date of the direct debit ie " on the 28th of October we will request £120.00" only to find on that date £50.00 is taken as an example.

Potentially pre-empting the Government credit, most likely. They do that with me too. I expect a bill for £100, they take £33 and make up the difference with the pending government voucher.
It's very confusing, and it also depends on how close the DD is to the government handout.
As long as your usage is covered, the government money is adjusted off your DD or the credit is applied to your account balance, all should eventually work out fine, but their methods of communicating EXACTLY how it is done, per customer and per month can get your head in a spin! -
This has been going on before the energy grant help though , as you say very hard to fathom sometmes
