Topping up ridiculous amounts?
-
Just had £50 topped on my smart meter and it was not anyone in our family, can anybody top up without my knowledge, please can you find out thanks
-
I’m the same I’m using about £10 per day since 1/10 £7 in electric £3 in gas so about £300 per month when it was about £100 surely mines not right either noone is home from 9-2 and it’s on £7 when I get home
-
Did you manage to solve the issue , I’m having the same problem using over £10 per day and no one is home from 9-2 and when I get up at 7 it’s already over £4 so using about £300 per month compared to about 100-120 something can’t be right I knows there would be a price increase but this is just extreme

@Naz786
Did you recently change to a prepay smart meter? If so, you had a one off £50 bonus incentive payment from E.On Next.Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -

Can I just point you at this thread?

@Purplerachel123 who posted earlier in this thread was in a similar position to you, topping up silly amounts and by luck I may possibly have diagnosed the issue with the really high electricity usage. It may be worth you having a look and seeing if you can follow a similar diagnosis to mine? Seeing how fast the red IMP light flashes on the meter, and then switching off appliances or circuits one at a time may show up a problem.Last edited by retrotecchie; 24-11-22 at 23:53.

@Zoe123 I have the same issue, topped up £10 Sunday had to up again today, just gas, we are not using anymore than normal, heating is on the bare minimum, so can't understand why we are using so much

@ADAMS
you may not be using so much, it may be price. Energy is almost twice the price this winter compared to last winter. Most people don’t use much gas in the summer so the impact then of higher prices isn’t so noticeable. What else could be using the gas?
have you boiler temperature low runs it most efficiently, if it’s a combi set it so that it’s not maintaining internal temperature (gives almost instant hot water but at significant cost).Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless. -
@retrotecchie
hey, thanks for the help. I don’t have a light on my meter, i have a pre payment meter not a smart meter. My neighbour is on the same and the amount it’s costing him is nowhere near as much as its costing me. Im convinced it cant be right. Even with standing charge it doesn’t add up. But no one at Eon is bothered, spoke to someone who said they dont offer statements for pre payment customers so i have no idea what im actually using. -
@Anasa_EONNext
i cant use the app im a pre payment customer. I’ve tried to ask for help from your customer service and i cant even access a statement. I guess ill carry on paying extortionate prices until someone decides im allowed access to see what im actually paying for. -
@Zoe123
To the best of my knowledge, it has been a requirement to have an impulse light on all electric meters since around 2001, possibly earlier.
It flashes very, very briefly...a few hundredths of a second in duration, and depending on how much energy you are consuming, will flash at different rates. Put a kettle on, the Flash rate will increase massively!
Anyway, that aside.
You can read the meter, yes? If so, pick a time of day, say 8am. Make sure it is the same time of day every day. Take a reading, note it down.
Do this every day, for a few days. Then, subtract the previous daily reading from each subsequent reading to work out your daily unit usage.
Multiply that by your tariff, add the standing charge, and that should tell you how much the energy should have cost you. Compare that against what your balances are telling you.
