@meldrewreborn yes I can afford to pay for the meter at the moment, but as retired war disability pensioner on a fixed income, what with the cost of living rising, energy company profits and that all SMETS1 meters will have to be upgraded to SMETS2 sooner rather than later.
i have ask for progress in my area on upgrade rollout without reply. But funnily they can book me in for an upgrage if I pay
You are being asked to pay a 'premium' to divert a meter engineer away from their already existing rollout workload. That would be my take on why they charge.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
I’m not aware of any plans to replace all SMETS1 meters. Once the enrolment of the SMETS1 meters onto the DCC network is complete in a few months , suppliers will formulate plans to replace non functioning meters with SMETS2 devices at some unspecified time in the future. But at the moment the scale of the problem isn’t in the public domaine. The smaller the number the easier it is to address.
enrolled meters will be fully functional and will not require replacement until their certification expires.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
We pootled along with Windoze XP for years after Vista and 7 came out, until Microsoft finally gave up supporting it. The same will happen with SMETS1. Once meters fall outside their certification window, they will start to be replaced, but I'm willing to bet the companies don't have everyone's 'meter expiry date' on file!
I did a project in Egypt once...one of the lads in the agent's office over there needed to borrow my laptop for something. When I got it back, the date and time in the taskbar were all in Arabic. It stayed that way for months.
If I pay for my SMETS1 smartmeter to be upgrade to a SMETS2 smartmeter which is E7 capable now (£157), that my present tarriff would remain the same until the end of my present fixed tariff and there would be no charge to me to switch onto Economy 7 tarriff with E'on?
To the best of my knowledge, that should be the case. With SMETS2, the change from single rate to dual rate is done remotely when the E7 tariff is applied.
I would suggest you clarify that with Customer Services just to double check my understanding that this is the case.
Hi. There is an EON Economy 7 tariff for cheaper overnight rates but this is only available if you already have EON Economy 7 meters fitted.
Note - from recent experience and regardless of EON Help advice, having a smart meter will not in itself enable Economy 7.
To have an EON Economy 7 smart meter fitted will cost you £157. And PS this would also require NEW smart meters fitted, even if you already have smarts meters apparently.
