If you are already in a property and upgrade to a smart meter, you would usually get some 'education' from the installers showing you how the setup works, and how to operate the IHD to get all the info you require. Often in the case of new builds, you just move in, the meters are already there and you miss out on that information. In theory, the developer or their agent should have taken you through the nuts and bolts when you moved in, but I find this rarely happens. My parents moved to a new build last year, and their house had solar thermal, underfloor heating, smart meters and the whole nine yards. The developer did indeed send a person round on moving in day who went through everything in great detail, and had someone in the show home who could pop round and remind new occupants how things worked if need be.
I tend to find that the new homeowners pack can vary significantly between developers. I recently moved to a rental that had been completely refurbished. My 'tenants info pack' was comprehensive to say the least. Full manuals for the boiler, heating controls, electrical cupboard, oven and hob...the lot. My last property, I had to figure everything out for myself. It took me two years to find the main water stopcock and water meter, hidden under a planter in the garden.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -
@Smithy15493 Thank you for your query. @retrotecchie has really valid points. Although I wonder if as is a new build the gas meter itself has been registered on the national grid and communicating with us. Do you mind sending us a picture of the actual meter rather than the picture of the in home display? We might be able to support you better based on the picture :)

You can also try the smart meter checker on the Citizens Advice website. This should tell you whether the meter is registered and communicating.

@retrotecchie It says it cannot find my Gas one, but my Electricity is fine and running in smart mode!

To be fair, that's not unheard of. So if your leccy meter is working and phoning home, but the gas one isn't, and can't be seen on the DCC's networks, then it is a configuration issue with either the gas meter, or the comms hub.
Were you with Eon right from the get go, or has their ever been another supplier involved at any time? If Eon all the way, the only thing I can suggest is phone them up and try and get them to 'adopt' the meter and get it onto the network. It may simply be that it's never actually been registered on the network.Last edited by retrotecchie; 06-11-22 at 15:58.

@retrotecchie Thanks! I rang and they said they cannot see the meter giving readings and will try to connect it up remotely, been a few days so just waiting patiently!

That's all you can do, my friend. It's a DCC issue rather than directly under control of Eon, but they may be able to prod them a little.
Keep us posted as to developments!
