@Karln Lot's of really good points from other members here and it can entirely depend on your boiler but I am concerned that your IHD isn't connected to the meter, which to me would indicate that the energy used was incorrect as it's not connected. Can you share a picture of your IHD with us?

Hi Beki.
Please see attached photo which was taken 4 days ago but is still the same not connecting or communicating with my gas smart meter.
Q) So how do you know exactly how much the gas has cost you at 8am (see my previous reply to possible cause)? (Not trying to be mean BTW just trying to get you in a better place mentally 🥂
read from smart meter outside (and it was bloody cold)
As yet, there is no legal requirement to have a Smart Meter and it's important that people know this.
Legally they can't force you to have one. Citizen Advice can advise on this and give you more information. The only issue is you may find it hard to access all tariffs, which there really aren't that many tariffs available, anyway.
I was lied to by eon. who told me if i wanted the V15 tariff i had to have smart meters fitted, but after they where fitted i found out that this was acctualy a lie.
But if i want them removing after this lie it is going to cost me around £150 to remove them.
I am far from happy about this.
I'd suggest that you have a good look at your boiler settings. BTW what make is your Boiler? If your boiler provides your domestic hot water (very likely) you might find that your boiler has a 'comfort setting/mode' turned ON so that it keeps a small permanent reservoir of hot water. If this is the case then you will find that the boiler will fire up intermittently particularly during the night when the temperature drops. If you find this setting, and it is in the ON position, then turn it OFF but expect your hot water to take a longer time to reach the set temperature. You should expect to see your IHD reflect only your standing charges when you get up.
My combi boiler is set at 100% eco setting so no gas is being used what so ever unless I either turn heating on or turn hot water on or both.
So no reason for gas to be used any other way.
Sorry to push on this but can you post the make and model of your boiler. The gas is being used ( unless the meter is faulty) and the boiler is the only candidate. You could test by turning the electric power off overnight to see if that results in a nil gas consumption. We’re really trying to help and we’re not on site for a hands on inspection like you are.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
As @meldrewreborn says. We're just trying to rule out everything we can for you as best we can.
I heat my home with baby dragons as we don't have gas here. If I put my boiler on 100% eco, it uses a small number of dragons (ok, a little heating oil) so the boiler never gets completely cold but maintains the internal water store at a fairly constant temperature. It's more 'eco' to keep the water warm before calling for HW than it is to heat it up from cold.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.

The combi boiler is an Ideal logic + and it is serviced every year by an Ideal gas fitter/service person.
1.2 OPERATION With no demand for CH, the boiler fires only when DHW is drawn off, or periodically for a few seconds without any DHW draw-off, in order to maintain the DHW plate heat exchanger in a heated condition. This only occurs if the “PREHEAT” button is pressed and the display reads “HOT WATER PREHEAT ON”. When there is a demand for CH, the heating system is supplied at the selected temperature of between 30o C and 80o C.
So might I suggest you check your preheat button settings?
The 'periodically for a few seconds' implies that it will be using a little gas now and then, even if you aren't pulling HW or heat. But, you will use slightly more gas if you turn it off. But none between the boiler going off at night and coming on the next day.
Incidentally, my boiler does live out in the garden....as does my 'leccy meter. Couldn't have either of them indoors as our hovel is too tiny. Plus the dragons would eat all the biscuits.
