I don't know if @theunknowntech will agree with me, but my guess then is that you have no HAN activity on the meter because your old IHD has lost the plot. The older device will still be paired via HAN to your meters, so will possibly work fine.

The gas tariffs do take much longer to update than the 'leccy meters, so it may just be that the latest gas prices haven't come down the (very slow) pipe yet.

HAN (Home Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) are two different communication channels. ET not phoning home is usually a WAN issue.

Not sure what you mean by "no HAN activity on the meter ....", as the HAN is now green when I plugged in the old Npower Duet II black display device. Are you saying that the HAN light should be green even if I unplug the Duet II?? Thx again.

Just realized that IHD is the Duet II. I've never plugged it in before. Never noticed the red light on the HAN before as we never had any issues sending smart readings. AFAIK, you can leave the IHD unplugged and nothing should be affected. If I plug in the IHD (Duet II), I can easily become obsessed with how much elec/gas I'm using 😄. The IHD does show how much gas/elec is being used. If I put the kettle on, I see the green elec bars shoot up and the blue gas bars do change also when central heating kicks in (but there is/was always a delay with the gas usage bars showing).

The HAN light goes green to indicate that communications have been established between the IHD and the Comms hub. If you don't have that with an IHD, it means the wireless gubbins in the dodgy IHD isn't talking. The Duet II is talking, so the HAN light comes on. Unplug it, it will go out again. That is to say, the HAN transciever in the meter/hub is working fine, as is the bit in the Duet II. The other IHD probably isn't working properly, as in 'faulty IHD'.

It won't affect the bit of the meter that measures your consumption or is supposed to send your readings back. The IHD part of smart metering is purely for your own information and convenience.

Thanks - still a bit confused. I only have one IHD that I know of - the old one from Npower that appears to work ok. Shoud I have been given a second IHD from EON? Cheers.

Sorry, my confusion. I thought you had a new one from Eon and an old one from NPower. My mistake.

Unplugging it, leaving it off for ages, and then plugging it back in again will sometimes reset a HAN connection. If your IHD isn't actually plugged in at all, your HAN light will change from green to Red, signalling no communications.

Ignore my ramblings! Anyway, sending meter readings back is a WAN issue, not a HAN issue. If the WAN light is green, but flashing rapidly, this indicates a communication burst happening. It should only last for a few seconds or minutes. If it's constantly flashing all the time, that usually indicates a problem. @theunknowntech will maybe have more of a clue than me.

I've had the Npower IHD unplugged for about 20 minutes now. The PWR and WAN lights are a solid green, and the HAN light is flashing off/green in a consistent manner. Suggests that the WAN is up and running.

The HAN is 'polling' to see if it can find your IHD then.

PWR and WAN being solid green seems to indicate that all is well, so the 'disconnect' may be between your meter and DCC (the company that manages smart meter communications) or DCC and Eon. Not a physical disconnect, but information just not getting from A to B and vice versa. Might be worth another attempt at Customer Services.

Just one more ? if you can help. Does the IHD include the daily fixed standing charges for elec and gas in the total cost displayed? My feeling is that it does - just wanted clarification. Thx
