No, gas is measured in cubic metres or some such and needs a conversion factor for kWH. A tad more involved than the leccy, for sure, but still doesn't need all the faffing about with. Once you have the kWhs used and the pence per kWh, the rest is just as easy.
I've not had mains gas for a decade, and wild horses wouldn't drag me back again!

"Once you have the kWhs used and the pence per Kwh, the rest is just as easy."
Unfortunately not as easy for everybody. I agree that when you have the Kwh for gas usage, it is a straight multiplication on the pence per Kwh.
However, what percentage of Gas users know the conversion rate from meter reading usage to get the Kwh used?

The conversion factor (used to be called calorific value?) is shown on the bill. My argument was not the issue of working out the kilowatthours, but rather the problem of showing the VAT calculations on the actual prices. It's the multiplying pence per kWh, ex vat, standing charge ex vat and then putting the VAT On the end, when all tariff prices are quoted including VAT.
That's where most people seem to get confused over the numbers on their bills.
@meldrewreborn Let me demonstrate simple. According to my online account:
Next Flex
33.97 p/kWh 49.17 p/day(All rates inc. VAT)
So the bill, simplified could look something like :
Last meter reading, on such and such a date:23456
New meter reading, on such and such a date: 23478
Units used 22
Billing days 31
Total energy cost 22 x 33.97p = £7.47
Total standing charges 31 x 49.17p = £15.24
Total charge this bill = £22.71
(All prices include VAT at 5%)
I think most folks could fathom that out.
Well done, Victor, how clever of you. But if you think that is simple and "most folks could fathom that out" you must work for EONext. You both have the same mindset. Confuse the user to show how smart you are :-)

Sorry old chum, your sarcasm is wasted this time - that's not my post - that came from @retrotecchie, who was only trying to explain a different way of doing it. I don't work for E.On next (or indeed anyone) but I don't think all the criticism posted on here of them is justified.
I've looked back at my bills from Symbio (they were absolutely diabolical by the way - billing a month ahead using inflated consumption), Zog, and EDF and they all do (did) it the same way as E.On Next do now.
The thing that is confusing is when the rates are expressed VAT ex and VAT inc in the same document, without making it clear.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
