The Government has just announced through the new Chancellor of the Exchequer this morning that the EPG is to last only 6 months, and before April next year there will be a Treasury led review into how to support households further without exposing the government to unlimited levels of expenditure through exposure to international gas prices.
So there in one fell swoop goes a lot of the advice that we have been given and have ourselves been offering in the last month or so.
At least we know the position for this winter, but the other advice we've been giving - that cutting consumption is the only sure way to limit exposure to high bills - still holds good.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

That is today's news. A lot could change over the next few months when it is likely the country will have a new Prime Minister.
Thanks for posting this @meldrewreborn - certainly not the news we were expecting today!
As it stands we're unsure of what all this will mean from April onwards, but we are doing all we can to understand what this means for everyone.
As you've said Melrew, we can say with confidence that the Energy Bill Support Scheme (the £67 monthly payments) will continue to be applied and we expect prices to stay the same until April.
We've seen a number of changes over the last couple of months politically, and have seen how fast these changes can be made. As soon as we've more information to share, we will of course get this out to you all here on the community.
On a positive note, UK gas futures are currently at a lower price per therm than they have been for a long time. More expensive by far than two years ago but nowhere near the peaks when Ofgem set their last two caps. Not saying gas will be very much cheaper, but possibly not as expensive as some people forecast.
But, like petrol and diesel, the retail prices never come down anywhere near as fast as they rocket upwards. That said, petrol round here has dipped below £1.55 a litre. Small mercies...
If the Conservatives want to win the next election it had become apparent that they would not do so with her at the helm. I though during the meetings to solicit members votes that she had little public speaking ability, but perhaps that didn't matter so much because she was regarded by others at being good on policy matters - and delved into the detail. Well, events proved that second part completely wrong, so her days were numbered. I'm slightly surprised that she lasted this long.
@meldrewreborn
The Conservatives with whoever is leader will be very hard pressed to win the next General Election. I don't think I would risk odds of 12/5 for them to win most seats. Probably better with Labour at 1/3. !!
Where we will be then in regards to the EPG is anybody's guess
