Just wondering why Eon have reduced my monthly direct debit by £66 for the next 6 months but have also credited my account by £66. Then have said that I should keep the direct debit the same as before even though I did not ask them to reduce it?
The idea is that your DD reduces by £66 and the government pays that same amount to your energy account, then your bank account is better off but the total payment to your energy account remains the same.
If they have then said that your DD should remain the same (ie. at £66) then it may be due to your tariff rates rising on 1st October. Could that be the case?
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
Yes, because the Gumment are paying 66 nicker, they credit that to your account directly. Your DD then doesn't need to be as much...whatever it was, less the £66
So if your monthly bill average was £100 and HMG pay £66 off your balance, then your DD would only need to be £34 to make up the hundred.
Likewise, if your account is hugely in credit, like mine is, then they still put £66 onto your credit balance, making your credit balance bigger. My DD is only £42 a month, so they just leave that alone as they cannot leave you with a zero or negative DD amount.
I was paying approx £127/month so when they dropped the DD to £66 for the next 6 months I thought sound.. .that makes sense. But a few days later my account was also credited £66 and the credit in the account increased. This does not seem right as when I went on to adjust payment page it says that I should leave the DD the same i.e. at least £127. Inever asked them to reduce the DD.
Sorry I made an error in my reply by putting £66 in brackets regarding your DD amount.
My point was though, did your tariff increase on 1st October? If so, then the £66 you would have expected your DD to decrease by due to the government contribution could have been cancelled out by a £66 rise in the DD due to your tariff rates increasing.
