Hi.
I am probably missing something obvious here, as I'm now totally bamboozled by Google searches, websites and the such - but, since the price change of the 1st October, my smart meter is now showing an increase in usage. Prior to the weekend, the cost of usage displayed from midnight to 8.00 am would be between 55/56pence; its now showing between 80/82pence. And my known usage has not changed as I'm trying hard to cut down as much as I can.
I'm on a fixed tariff till next September, so assumed (possibly wrongly) that there would be no change to my costs ? I'm also on economy 7, so have day and night rates for the electricity. A comparison of the tariff details on my EON on line account and the data on the smart meter don't exactly correspond either.
I'm now so confused, I'm not sure what's right or wrong, but as I want to be 100% clear on my usage and costs, any help appreciated.
@SmokeyJoe17
All I can think of is to check the actual usage in kWh instead of in £££s to see whether it’s an increase in usage that’s caused it.
Your tariff costs should not have increased as you are on a fix, although they could have gone down,
One way you can check accurate historical usage is to download the Hildebrand Bright App as I have done. This app shows your usage down to half-hourly intervals and has history going back about a year… in the case of mine, at least.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
I had the same issue. And am on a fixed deal. Yet when I compare my last bill with what the website says my rates are, both the day rate and the unit rate have increased. Which given I’m in a fixed deal until June 2023 sounds rather dodgy to me!
Sounds odd to me. My head is spinning with all this but if you are on a fixed rate tariff then the only way your rates should have moved is downwards. If your fix was below the EPG then the rates should not have changed.
You may want to wait a day or two to see if they change again, but if they don’t then it’s customer service I’m afraid.
At midnight, my display will show the total cost of the standing charge for both fuels so it'll be displaying £0.80 before I burn any Gas or use any Electric. By around 8.00 am it'll be around £1.00. So if your display is anything like mine your increase being shown each day will be the initially added standing charge added. Has your standing charge increased?
@hendersonm
a small increase in standing charges arising from the price cap change applies from this month.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
@hendersonm - my online account shows my electricity standing charge as 49.23 pence - smart meter shows 48 pence. For gas, online account shows 27 pence standing charge - smart meter shows 19 pence, but the cost for the gas is way out......13.35 pence on my online account, and only 3.83 pence on the smart meter. No idea -
