Govt. subsidy NOT being deducted from Direct Debits

    @FPX

    First the facts. Your normal DD is £110. The government are going to pay either £66 or £67 in to your Eon Next account for the next six months to a total of £400 to help you pay your energy bills.

    Let’s assume that the government payment is £67 this month.

    1. Your normal DD of £110 has been reduced to £43. That is a real £67 saving for you.

    2. Sometime soon, maybe today, but certainly by the end of the month, the £67 government assistance will be paid to your Eon Next account. This means that in total, your normal full amount of £110 will have been credited to your energy account.

    3. To summarise… Your DD has been set correctly at £43 so that you pay £67 less. The government will pay that same amount (£67) to Eon Next on your behalf so that your normal payment is made in full. Therefore, the government is helping to pay your energy bill. That is the principle behind the Energy Bill Support Scheme (EBSS).

    From next month, hopefully you should see the £66 or £67 being credited to your Eon Next account on the same day that your new DD of £44 or £43 is taken. That will mean your normal £110 will be paid on your DD day. Things are a bit late this month as it is a new scheme.

    Hopefully this has explained things for you.

    my direct debit has been changed to £0 by eon next so I’ve not paid a DD this morning so I’m assuming I’ll just see a credit applied to my account for the £67? Do you know when that will happen?

    thanks
    @Saz

    Your DD has been reduced to zero because it is less than the £66 or £67 the government will be paying to your Eon Next account for the next six months.

    I don’t know how much your DD is, but let’s assume it’s normally £50 a month. Also let’s assume the government payment is £67 this month.

    1. You will pay nothing to Eon Next so have immediately saved £50.

    2. The government payment of £67 will be credited to your Eon Next account sometime soon, maybe even today, but certainly by the end of the month.

    3. This means that your normal £50 payment to your energy account has been taken care of and also you will have an extra credit of £17 on there.

    4. Hopefully, from next month, the £66 or £67 government payment will arrive in your Eon Next account on the same day as your monthly DD would have.

    5. So, for the six months from October to March you will not pay a DD to Eon Next. However, the government will pay £66 or £67 in to your energy account every month. By the end of the six months the government will have paid £400 in to your Eon Next account whereas, as your DD is less than £66, you would have paid less than £400 over this same period. That means that hopefully you will have some credit in your account going into April (although that will depend on how much energy you have actually used by then). So, when you start paying your DD again, it might be a little bit less than it is now for a while.

    I hope this has explained things to you.

    I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.

    @Tommysgirl Many thanks for that .It appears to be a complete mess . I keep receiving emails from some call centre somewhere in the world telling me I have received my discount ,when I have not !. The weird thing is they took the whole direct debit amount from my bank but on my online account it says pending ???

    EONext take a long time to credit an account with payments. They took my DD from the bank on Monday but still haven't credited my EONext account by Friday. FIVE days and still not right. The banks can do it within 2 hours !!!

    Monday to Friday is 4 days. The money might be deducted from your account on Monday but the supplier doesn’t get the dosh till Tuesday. They probably could invest to do it all quicker, but is there really a pressing need?
    Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

    EONext did not credit the direct debit to my account on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday (so far at 11.44am). That therefore is FIVE days. Investing to do it quicker would do nothing for them, but would give their customers some reassurance that they were not a slow, behind-the-times business. If banks found it possible to get such a transaction down to less than two hours, generally minutes, what's EONext's problem?

    @GSimpson

    the supplier doesn't know that a Direct Debit is successful until they actually receive the money, which would have been on Tuesday [EDIT Monday] sometime. Your method of counting days that money has been in the supplier's hands is outside of my comprehension.

    I get that you're unhappy, but please don't exaggerate your case by making nonsensical statements - it only undermines the point you're trying (and failing) to make.

    Direct Debits work on a 3-day cycle - so on the day it's debited from your account, EoN have the money in their account. The only holdup is how long it takes them to allocate the money to your account.
