According to my eon.next app, for the past 6 weeks, my gas meter has not been sending any automated readings. So I've also not received the usual monthly bill.
I've got a little exclamation mark next to the gas and the message 'Some of your data appears to be missing'.
My IHD is monitoring gas usage correctly.
(Electricity is completely unaffected and working perfectly).
I've messaged on twitter - but after hitting a brick wall there last time I had a problem, I thought I would try a two-pronged approach and ask on here too.
Sorry to bump this. It magically started working again on its own for 3 weeks. Twitter support only replied after it was already working - saying they didn't see a problem!
Now I've just entered my new billing month and it's disconnected again. I've got the same little exclamation mark next to the gas and the message 'Some of your data appears to be missing'.
Depending where you are in the country, it may be that your meter got it's act together....and then dropped off line again at the start of the month. If your meter or comms hub is a GSM version, several of these in some areas are being disconnected because several mobile networks are switching off the old 3G service the meters use for communication to DCC.
Where I am, in West Wales, EE shut down 3G on 01 October and Vodafone are switching off this month, leaving no 3G network connectivity. Not many folks round here have smart meters as the coverage was poor anyway and most didn't work, but the few that did are now all dumb meters.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
@retrotecchie Is it possible that only my gas would be affected by this and not my electric? Electricity meter is still working and communicating fine.
Ah, ok. Possibly not network related then There seem to be a lot of issues with gas meters not working, or communicating, while the electric meters seem to be fine.
From what I gather, it seems that although electric meters can respond almost instantly to network communications, if DCC (the communications folks) send any new configurations or details to a gas meter, they tend to sulk for a while and twiddle their thumbs, and the catch up a few weeks later.
I'm assuming you can still take readings manually from the meter, and that the meter itself hasn't rolled a seven?
Might be worth trying the Citizens Advice Smart Meter checker to see whether the DCC network can actually see your meter?
@retrotecchie Yes gas meter itself is working fine and I can manually take readings. It's still communicating with my IHD as well.
The citizens advice page just throws an error 'we're sorry something went wrong' when I try and click submit - so not sure if that's a me thing or a them thing!
@retrotecchie Ok so today the citizens advice page says the electricity IS working in smart mode, but my gas ISN'T working smart mode. Do you know if there is anything I can do - who do I have to prod? Because it was working in smart mode previously - I haven't changed supplier in 3 years and it's only been a problem the last two months.
I've tried twitter again but by the time they replied last time it had miraculously cured itself!
