My fixed rate for electricity & gas ends in late October, so I am being asked to renew. The only option is NextFlex, which is a variable rate. I expected this, but the tariffs being quoted are far above the rate set in the October price cap...are they not yet being quoted?
The unit rate for electricity is 53.83 and for gas it is 14.77.
Are these the rates that would have applied without government intervention?
Will the correct rates appear in October?
The monthly bill is about 120 pounds higher than the amount quoted on the Moneysavingexpert calculator.
Thanks in advance
The standing charges you have been quoted will remain. The unit prices will be approximately 34p per unit electricity (charges are regional and will vary a little bit), and 10.3p for gas, so considerably under the fixed rate you were offered.
There is a bit of a hold up while the fine details of the Government scheme are finalised, so suppliers are unable to pass the precise rates to us at present.
Coming off of a price fix means that you have avoided some very steep increases in October 2021 and April 2022, so these prices, although lower than published by OFGEM in August, will still be viewed as very high indeed.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
The rates still haven't been updated. Surely it is a simple thing to apply the newly capped rates? I'm reluctant to click on 'renew' until I understand the issue. That said, it is only going to put me on the NextFlex variable rate so I don't think it will make any difference if I click on it or not.
I think you’re correct. When your fixed tariff ends you’ll move to Next Flex whatever. You’ll be charged the correct rates but it is taking more time than it should to update those that are published.
I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
