That is exactly the point I was making.It did not make sense that ALL fixed rates would be reduced by 17p and 4.2p. The information given by the Government on this point was very confusing and certainly not correct
Confusion reigns. I've just read an email from MSE. He's now saying his reading of the government rules is that those on fixes will only get reductions to the level of the variable EPG and no further. see here:
This is in stark contrast to the Government's earlier energy bills factsheet number 8. in effect it means that unless you've a cheap fix from long ago you'l be paying the new EPG rates going forward. But energy suppliers can't issue any new rates yet because the rules from government have not been finalised. What a mess!
This is pretty much my assumption after emailing and asking to be moved from v19 back to SVR - I was told there was no need as the fixed tariffs will be adjusted to fall in line with the EPG.
I could still insist on going back to SVR I suppose, but will wait for the official figures to come out. How I read that response is that the fixed tariff will be no different to being on SVR - in fact I don't think there will effectively be such a thing as SVR or fixed, it will just all be EPG (unless you have been lucky enough to fix under that rate).
as I read it standing charges will be October 2022 OFGEM rates for the variable EPG . For fixed rates the EPG rates will apply if they are lower than the contracted fixed rates -but i’ve Been wrong on this several times already.

I'm so confused. I thought the price was supposed to go down but now the variable price has gone from £488.12 a year to £878.06? isn't it going to increase even further in the winter? now I feel like an idiot for not just taking the fixed tariff.
Prices this winter will be twice the price of last winter. You would have had to fix 6 months ago to have got a better deal than the new EPG.
most households will be paying the same rates, even those that recently fixed.
