And don’t forget that over 45% of our electricity is gas generated, and so the increase in the generation of electricity needed in the UK alone is truly massive.
Consumption of fossil fuels worldwide is still growing so the task before humanity is beyond most people’s comprehension.
they see that the green agenda is the right way to go, but are not prepared to pay the consequent price.
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons.
Hmm. There is a phrase "carbon neutral" on https://gridwatch.co.uk/demand/percent which could only apply to some dirty and fossil generators whose accountants bought certificates. Genuine renewables I'm OK with, but 14 GW of fossil gas powered generation labelled 'CCGT' cannot possibly be genuinely not worsening the worldwide climate a little bit (albeit less badly than the worst types of coal power station). What can I do to buy genuine renewables when possible and then switch things off when the only remaining options are fossil fueled generation and unknown imports? With sun on the roof, I'm running my heat pump while I can, and then it has to go off soon because the industry-wide "carbon neutral" certificates are Not Trusted.
@meldrewreborn
I'm really sure. 30% "renewables" plus 35% "carbon neutral" at a time when CCGT is 45% ? something isn't right there. On the more positive side, 22% wind plus 2% hydro is quite a lot of good. 5% Biomass so that must be in category "renewables" (which is a bit of a cheek for burning intercontinental wood imports in a power station whose chimney is so big that it led to Sweden discovering acid rain). 30% "renewable" is not enough for me so I switched off my heat pump when the sun went down. I'll even be burning fossil gas later to warm the house (BOO!)
I turn things off to save me money, regrettably not to save the planet. Its up to government to adjust the tax base to ensure that saving money also means saving the planet.
On other things like tobacco, alcohol, Road Fuels, sugar, restaurant food, the Government taxes us so we use less of it.
For some reason that I just don't fathom the government trumpets the freezing of fuel duty as wonderful, when it's totally illogical. The day will come when Domestic gas starts to be taxed to encourage the shift to heat pumps.

I agree the numbers don't add up which is why I think the renewable and carbon neutral cover much the same generation. Which category gets nuclear, or hydro? Wind and solar probably fit both. But without an explanation on the site (that i could find in a quick search) its all a bit of a guess. And I'm not going to worry about it.
