Refund of standing charge and removal completely due to no usage

@DebF_EONNext, Any chance of a reply from anyone at eon?

Are you able to clarify that the standing charge can still be removed providing the meter reading has not changed?

Anyone care to bother to give a reply? Or have you just defaulted to ignoring customers?

If that is the case, that is fine with me.

    Hi @Mac9091

I suspect the reason that you're not getting any replies is that they think you're query has been answered in the first two replies ie the meter needs to be removed.

Just in case you haven't seen this the third point may be of use regarding no removal fees for vulnerable customers. No doubt someone may come back and say " that's eon and we're eon-next" but let's have a bit of common sense.

Looking at SSE as you've mentioned them in your original post, they'll only remove SCs if "You haven't used any gas and/or electricity since you took on the property" and "Your supply when you moved into the property was already with SSE". I've taken these from here.

Hi @Mac9091, I am sorry for the delay in responding I was on annual leave and the community isn't always manned. This space is meant for peer to peer support, we always recommend that if your query is urgent then you should get in touch with our energy specialists.

As I mentioned previously we would not normally remove standing charges whilst there is still an active meter in the property that has not been capped. If there is still an active gas supply to the property and a meter in the property (even if it isn't being used) then standing charges would still be payable unfortunately. If your friend was to have the meter capped then we would then be able to remove the meter and the standing charges for them.

I hope this gives you the information you are looking for 😊

@DebF_EONNext thanks for getting back to me. Hope you had a quiet holiday. My frustration came from the lack of reply clearly.

However your reply haas brought up another question. The standing charges had previously been removed!

After receiving a bill my friend was to phone up and provide the meter reading and then the standing charge would be removed and another bill for £0.00 was sent. So that's not true when you say you can't do it unless the meter is removed.

I can't phone up and talk about the account as it is not mine.

Could you please confirm that should the person be diagnosed with MS be classified as a vulnerable customer?

Thanks for the reply, yes I saw that but also expecting the reply to be "unless they are claiming PIP then they are not entitled" which would mean this would take a few months.

A bit of common sense would be not to charge standing charges when clearly there is no usage.

Alternatively, the sensible attempt to remove tariffs with "zero" SC to make comparing different SCs was pointless.

Hey @Mac9091, were the standing charges removed by us or E.ON do you know? It isn't our policy to remove standing charges while there is still an active supply (in use or not) so if the standing charges were removed by ourselves then it is likely that this has been done as a gesture of good will by the energy specialist involved. As I mentioned this isn't normal practice, I am aware that E.ON used to do this however it isn't something that we do here at E.ON Next.

A person with MS may well be classed as vulnerable & could be eligible to be registered on the Priority Services Register (PSR) however they would have to discuss this with an energy specialist. It's important to note though that being added to the priority services register doesn't mean that the person will be eligible for any benefits etc this is only for the purposes of identifying a person as vulnerable in the event of a power cut or emergency. If there was a planned power cut they would be informed in advance, if a non planned power cut happens they may be given priority to restore their supply or be provided with alternate heating or cooking resources 😊
