You're correct of course and I understand this. I quoted moneysavingexpert hoping people could look at the article themselves to make an informed choice.
The nub of it is that unit prices are rocketing in current fixed tariffs being offered to existing users so delaying fixing COULD be costly, especially if there are no exit fees in what's being offered.
I've been careful to include 'worth considering' in what I've written. The ''best guess as a rule of thumb'' on that site is now, ''If you're offered a year's fix at no more than 95% above your current price-capped tariff, or 100% more if you very strongly value budgeting certainty, IT'S WORTH CONSIDERING''. (Capital letters inserted by me for clarity).
Just trying to help by flagging-up the information I'm finding but of course it's every individual's choice as to what looks best to them.
I’ve just signed up for the V19 fixed deal. Which is around £40 (per month) more expensive than the v18 deal I was looking at a few days ago. Decided to bite the bullet and go for it, as there are no exit fees and with the £400 assistance coming in October it will ease the pain slightly. This should keep me from needing to pay another £100 per month when the October, Jan and April increases happen. It’s a gamble but one worth taking. September payment will be harsh though!
Looking back a couple of years, visiting switching sites and managing to shave a tenner off our monthly bills is seeming like a bit of fun now. The consequences of choosing the right deal at the right time at present could run to thousands of pounds a year now.
Personally, I’m happy I chose to fix, but who knows?
We won’t really know if we made the right choice until a year has gone by. There’s still a lot that could change. Let’s hope none of us ends up hugely worse off… either by luck or judgement.
