Just wondering, what is the difference between Next 1 Year v18 Direct Debit and Next Online v18 Direct Debit versions (both residential tariffs). They seem to have similar but different unit rates with the second one (Next Online v18 Direct Debit) being better on unit rates . Coming to the end of my current Eon Next fixed tariff on 1st October.
If I renewed to go with Next Online v18 Direct Debit am I able to transfer to these tariffs with a start date on 1st October keeping my current fixed rates until then?

Unfortunately Mailman as your tariff isn't quite in that renewal period yet we would be unable to fix that V18 tariff to start in October. If you were to choose that tariff today then it would start straight away & you would start paying the new unit rates & standing charges straight away.
We are only able to fix tariffs to a future date if you fix within your renewal window which is currently within the 45 days of the current tariff end date 😊

The difference between the two tariffs you mention is that the second one is ONLINE. Generally, on-line tariffs are cheaper than others in the same way that you get discounts for paying by monthly direct debit and having dual fuel etc. That's how I read it anyway.
I was unable to see any tariffs until I was approaching the end of my current tariff and was offered v15. Unfortunately I put off fixing there and then due to what I perceived to be very high unit rates but at current predictions I wish I had grabbed it.
My v17 costs are...
Elec: 52.11p/kWh with a standing charge of 37.92p/day
Gas: 12.87p/kWh with a standing charge of 27.22p/day
This is considerably higher than the v15 prices I was originally offered.
I can't get access to any other tariffs in my on-line account now and I'm curious to know what is on offer now with Next Online v18.

My renewal is due on September 10th. I've been offered Netflex £252, NextOnlinev18 £442, Next1YearV18 £560. The last two both seem to be one year fixes on direct debit. Is the only difference that one is online and paperless? Seems a big difference in price.
Also I was only offered separate day & night rates for electricity. My present tariff is just one rate for the whole day. I suppose the difference is marginal but I would have thought I'd have a choice.
I don’t know of any reason that standing charges should increase this time, but a switch of some elements from electricity to gas are possible . Gas prices remain very high and I’m expecting 16p per unit this time.
it was recently announced that a nuclear power station has just been retired which will mean more generation by gas in the daytime going forward. There doesn’t seem to be any good mews at the moment!
Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.
@DesCook The online tariff requires the customer to have a smart meter fitted (if not already) as part of the contract whereas the other fixed tariff doesn't. The price difference is a persuader to push the rollout of smart meters.
