The Big Plastic Count starts tomorrow who has signed up?
I think this will be good to see exactly how much plastic we are using at home, although I usually try to reduce single use plastic at home I have to admit that the plastic we do have I just toss in the recycling bin without a second thought. I'm hoping that this will actually bring it home for me & make my family a bit more aware too!"Green is the prime colour of the world and that from which it's loveliness arises"-Pedro Calderon De La Barca 🌳

I hadn't @Beki_EONNext but I have now. There's a bit of ambiguity with the Tally Sheet, I've already had to get my rubber out!

Oh gosh @meldrewreborn, I am definitely not into shaming people when it comes to climate change. There is such a negative stigma surrounding and including all the accessories to climate change that I'm on a mission to educate and bring awareness to these subjects. 🌍

@Beki_EONNext
I'm fully aware of the problems climate change is bringing to the planet.
What I object to is being lectured ad nauseum on the topic on sites that in reality have little to do with the topic.
In my mind the problem with plastics is how they are disposed of, not that they exist at all, they make our lives easier and cost effective.
Plastics shouldn't go to landfill or abroad - they should be recycled or burnt. -
We don't want to lecture people or pressure people at all that's not what we're here for, sorry if you feel this way. I do understand what you are saying @meldrewreborn it can certainly feel a bit overwhelming when it is everywhere, I get that.
I do however think it's important for us to highlight these issues though after all we are a renewable energy company. I believe it's important to lessen the carbon footprint, protect our planet, raise awareness & make changes in a positive way.
We would never want to pressure anyone into feeling like they have to take part or that they even have to read what we post. I do feel like it's nice to show people what we are doing as a team, some people might love it & decide they want to take part too, do it as a part of the community even, which is fantastic, whilst others much like yourself would rather not & that's ok too, everyone has things that they feel passionate about.
I agree with you 100% that plastics should be recycled & should never end up in landfills though 😊Last edited by DebF_EONNext; 18-05-22 at 17:35.

How did everyone that took part get on with the big plastic count, @Andy65 & @Tracy have you had your carbon footprint results in yet? I was shocked with my results, of all the plastic for that week (which was much more than I expected 😥) only 17% of my plastic waste would be recycled, 25% of it exported, 20% would go to landfill and 38% would be incinerated. The last part especially was the biggest shock to me, I genuinely didn't realise how much plastic is actually burned 😱 this worries me as surely this must be having such a negative impact on air pollution?!

@DebF_EONNext
Burning is entirely sensible as most plastics are made from oil. Providing the correct technology is used it isn’t polluting, and it infinitely better than landfill or export.
