Hi, we don't have a combi-boiler, just direct gas heating of water and CH. I have always believed that the boiler was far more efficient and cheaper than electric immersion heater to heat the water but is that still the case?
We normally have the boiler heating the water in the morning before we get up and in the evening after meal but the timer has the option to click + 1hr, should we need it.
In view of the gas costs and possibly shortages in the future due to the atrocities in Europe would an electric immersion heater on a timer be a sensible option?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Frank
Electricity is 4 times the unit price of gas at present (and has been for a very log time!).
Gas boilers are not 100% efficient and this must be taken into account. But in spite of that given you are heating the same tank with two alternative fuels I would strongly advise sticking to the gas to heat that water tank.
Thank you for that and it does seem a non-brainer that gas is still cheaper and overall more efficient than electric so will continue with our way of doing things. I guess I was thinking when the heating goes off altogether as we are now down to evening only for heating. However your logic would still stand at the unit cost even if we only heat water.
Thank you
