We have recently been transferred from EON to EON Next (without our permission). We now find that where we were in credit we are now in debit on our account. Our monthly bill has trippled and we were wondering how we can resolve this.
If we pay off the debit amount does this mean that the monthly direct debit will reduce or will it not affect the monthly payment.
Any help or advise would be appreciated.
You need to get in contact with Eon Next customer services. They can be emailed / phoned/ twitter /instagram /facebook. If you phone make sure you can be phoned back if connection is lost.
Its entirely possible that the credit hasn't come over yet.
Your DD should be predicted annual usage times prevailing prices divided by 12, then plus minus adjustments for your account balance. Arm yourself with real information if you want to effectively challenge a DD amount.
@meldrewreborn - many thanks for this information. Having never been in this situation before we were unsure as to whether to pay off the debit or not?
Prices for energy have risen sharply and tripling of bills is not unknown over the past year. While you can use to reclaim a direct debit that has been wrongly calculated by contacting your bank and invoking the Direct Debit Guarantee, the best option by far is to contact customer services. Because these are under great pressure at them moment and waiting times are long, I think sending an email is one of the best means because you can say clearly what the problem is, and what needs to be done to resolve it. Don't forget to include your account details!
This way you have a real record of what you've asked for. Your credit will either reduce your payments going forward or it might be refunded to you.
Direct Debits are supposed to help customers. They spread the expected bills equally over a long period. Usually they work out well, but they assume a certain level of energy use and if that information is incorrect they can be quite wrong - either too high or too low.
Find out what your energy usage actually is and use current prices to calculate what a years usage might cost.
@Lily
I've also recently been transferred from Eon to EonNext and none of my direct debits from January to June 20022 have been credtiited to the account. Previous statements are unavailable in contradiction to the help pages which state previous 2 years are available. Spoke to customer services and they can't even see them. Appears to be a complete shambles
