I paid £37 per mth last year which caused me to be owed a lot of money by eon. Im now being asked top pay double that for next year .This is excessive as i just dont use the quantity of electricity.I will be using even less this year for obvious resons.I realise energy prices have risen ,but not by the amount im being asked to pay.How do i adjust the direct debit amount ?
You need to look at your estimated consumption and check that its a reasonable figure. Then you need to compute the likely bill for a year using both standing and unit current prices. Divide the annual figure by 12 to get your computation of the DD amount. Make any adjustments (if you're in credit will this be refunded to you in one lump sum or will it reduce your future DD payments?).
My own payments will be nearly 3 times higher this year than last. Its just not possible to say that you feel the DD amount is too high and you want it lowered. Facts and figures are what they are all about.
But you are right to challenge a DD that is set too high - it would result in you making an interest free loan to your supplier.
I`m only talking about myself here but I`m credit by over £200 at the moment, I`ve been told that it will be refunded in full this month, but up until now I`ve been free to set my own DD levels. that may change when my balance reverts to £0 again.
