Overestimated usage figures lead to excessive monthly DD payment

Since being moved to E-on Next from NPower over a year ago my estimated usage figures have been wildly inaccurate. To make matters worse the figures for night and day consumption has been transposed so the assumption is that I use way more units during the more expensive daytime than I do at night.

Beki has kindly arrange for these estimated usage figures to be adjusted but apparently this takes some time. I'm happy to wait as long as it is sorted.

However, this has now reared it's ugly head with the recalculation of my monthly DD from April - along with everyone else. This recalculation is based on the estimated usage figures and not on my actual usage figures of which there are now over a year's worth, assiduously submitted every month. The upshot is that my DD is supposedly going up from just under £150 to nearly £320. I have gone into my account to try and adjust the payment to something more realistic, like £200, but it won't let me.

Anyone got any useful suggestions as to where I go from here? Apart from the fact that I can't afford over £300 every month, even with the tariff increases it is at least 30% over what my actual usage is.

You can give notice to Eon next that you disagree with the DD and, as the sum demanded is unfair, and a breach of the company's licence conditions, you will call your bank to reclaim the DD amount once it is taken. Or they can work out the correct balance on your account using the right readings and prices and then compute a correct DD amount.

It seems to me that you account might also be showing incorrect balances, although you do not mention this. Is you account reasonably correct - so that its only the estimated future consumption that is wrong?

Many thanks for your comments. I understood that Beki had initiated the rectification to my estimated usage figures but that this would take a long time. When I received the revised DD notification I asked her advice about getting it changed to something more reasonable but have so far not had a response.
I have tried changing the DD amount from my account but it says I cannot reduce it as it has been calculated according to my estimated usage which Eon next deem to be accurate, which clearly it is not.
I thought by corresponding with Beki that would progress the matter but from what you say I ought to make contact via a different method? At the moment I can't log in to my account but if you can point me in the right direction I would be grateful then I can follow your advice when I am finally able to log in.
Thank you in advance for your time.

I would send them an email. Remember to include in your account number. That way you can compose something that says exactly what you want to say and cannot be later misrepresented. In my mind I always try (but don't always succeed) to draw a distinction between the person I am in contact with and the Organisation. I find that sometimes that one has to be quite forceful in one's approach because something that should be quite simple and straightforward has caused you problems that shouldn't have occurred.
