Happy Mothers Day everyone! Me and the rest of the Community team would like to wish you a wonderful day, full with all the love that the universe can give.

While celebrating this day, did you ever stop and wondered how mother’s day came about ? Different countries have different stories, but here in the UK it is related to the middle ages!

Yes, in the 16th Century, people who used to work or live away from their families, would return to their Mother’s church on the 4th Sunday in Christian Lent. This reunion was celebrated as one of the small occasions where families could gather together in festive celebrations. Eventually, this celebration became a tradition where people would bring a gift to the mothers to celebrate them.

The actual celebration based on mothers with no religious connotation started to spread all over Europe in 1920.

Nowadays, we celebrate Mother's Day in many different ways. It is still, for many of us, still an occasion to celebrate and get together. Living in such a diverse society, we do celebrate all kinds of mother figures.

One special thought will be for all those mums who have lost a child, to those who have lost their mothers, those with difficult mother’s/children’s relationships, those who have chosen not to be mothers, those that have adopted mum’s role,to single mum’s and those who are yearning to be mothers.

Being a mother covers so many roles and we are here to celebrate that. It is not always easy, but it is a beautiful journey.

How will you celebrate this day? Do you have a particular tradition for this specific day that you would like to share ?

I can’t wait to hear all about it and celebrate it with you all.

Sharing the love,
Benedetta
