Good afternoon all, query really.
We understand somewhat that gas and electricity charges are rising, we get it, but why has the standing charges/daily also doubled ??
Are we to receive double the amount of attention to meters and infrastructure ?
This seems an unnecessary extra charge and is not explained when announcing the rises in electricity.

The electricity standing charge is being hiked to cover all the costs from the failed energy suppliers and the costs of migrating customers to new suppliers.

The Gas standing charge isn't increasing anything like so much.

The reasoning? Nearly every household has electricity but not everyone has gas.

The reasoning is published but not all the mainstream media are reporting it.

But spreading the cost this way affects small user of power just as much as large users of power, and thus in essence is regressive, because the small users are in effect subsidising the heavier users of power, who are likely to be financially better off.
