I have been told, like many others, that my energy bills will be increasing come April. I have logged into my account and the offers are "Next Flex" which is variable and will cost me at the moment £160 per month and "Next Online V12" which is £184 per month and fixed for one year with no exit fees.
My question is, should I choose this fix or just stick to the variable for now and hope that the cost of energy doesn't increase too much in October?
Just really stuck, and would appreciate some advice!
The new price cap is operative from 1 April and your variable rate pricing will increase a very great deal.
So your current variable pricing has just one month to run. Then the new price cap will apply, and then another from October 2022 which is also expected to increase prices.
I can't see the V12 pricing but if you quote the rates then I'll be able to help. Certainly the V11 proved popular as it offered certainty post October2022.
My V11 prices (london) 29.24 per unit and 37.92 per day (both VAT incl). So V12 is more expensive than V11 by circa 16%. V11 was good because you paid a bit extra compare to variable for one month (march 2022), then the same as variable for 6 months (apr -sep), and then probably less than variable for 5 months, because the likelihood is that prices will go up again in October 2022.
I'm not sure that I'd go for V12, as its a much more finely balanced decision. If prices go up in October 2022 by a great deal (more than 30%), then it could pay off.
DAve
the increase users are facing are dramatic and not all implemented at the same time.
I was on competitive fixed rates until late last year. First Symbio went bust, then Zog. My contract with Zog (GAS) ran to March 2023 but is now worthless. Just moving to the price capped rates with EON and EDF was painful enough and now we've the April 2022 price cap increase too. My bill at these new rate is almost exactly 3 times what i was paying last year. So a doubling of DD isn't that unlikely, indeed it may be an under estimate.

Reason: add more on prices.
Hi, does anyone have the new capped prices for 1st April, I fixed mine on the next online v10 a month ago, just wondered if I made the right decision or not.
The price cap operates on variable tariffs only. Fixed tariffs are not affected. The prices i quoted above for the V11 fixed tariff (london - other regions may be marginally different) are actually the same as will apply from April 2022 on the price cap.
The V11 has been withdrawn and V12 is circa 16% more. Prices are only increasing it seems.
